The Hear Now Festival began life back in 1979 as the Midwest Radio Theatre Workshop. More than four decades later, workshops remain central to our mission. Now established as a program of NATF separate from the Hear Now Festival, Hear Learn workshops carry this tradition of education for the audio fiction community into the 21st century.
National Audio Theatre Festivals, Inc. is pleased to invite you to our ongoing Hear Learn Scriptwriting for Audio Theatre Workshop
Join a Communicator Award winning writer for an in-depth course designed to hone the craft of scriptwriting for audio theatre. Starting September 28th, six immersive sessions over four months will take you on a deep dive into the art of crafting compelling audio narratives.
Well-crafted stories are the heart of any audio production. Words and language help to paint a visual picture through the audience’s imagination. One may set their production in the Crab Nebula on an intergalactic spaceship or in the more intimate environment of a kitchen where a mother and son carry on a conversation washing dishes – it all comes down to the specificity and making the experience personal from your own experiences.
We will explore the process of crafting a logline, develop character profiles, a beat sheet, script formatting for audio theatre as developed by the BBC, and workshop your script with actors. Your participation will result in a polished audio script authored by YOU, ready for production.
While it’s not a competition, every script created will be reviewed by the NATF Programming Committee. Your script could be chosen for a live production!
Regular Admission: $450
Student: $300
Kansas City Resident: $350
This four-month workshop will meet exclusively on Zoom:
Sept 28, Oct 26, Nov 2, Nov 16, Dec 7, and Dec 14.
