Writing and Producing Radio Drama in the Classroom by Don Kisner is a manual for teachers wishing to move their students into the exciting realm of audio theater writing and producing. The book was written with middle/high school language arts classes in mind but has applications appropriate for any teacher aspiring to motivate students to become involved in their subject matter. Language arts teachers (English, drama, creative writing, multi-media) will find audio theater writing/producing an ideal method of integrating every conceivable language related skill into one project. Social studies teachers will discover that audio theater is an exciting way to motivate students to delve into the lives and understand the challenges of historical figures. Foreign language teachers will find writing and producing an inspiring way to involve students in the practical application of the language being studied. Technical requirements are flexible. The book describes three separate production styles from the simple to the more complicated. Equipment needs are discussed in detail and their use is made clear with easy to read diagrams. Exciting productions, complete with sound effects, can be completed using equipment readily available in schools, and if more challenging techniques are desired, those instructions are in the manual as well. Sample scripts and student worksheets may be duplicated for classroom use.
